FAQ'S ON SATURN

What happens during Shani Maha dasha?

Whenever one talks about Saturn or Rahu people have a tendency to fear negative effects.

Saturn in particular is an excellent Teacher since he is one who has the Experience of a life time.

To understand the effects of Saturn Dasha you need to first understand Saturn’s nature.

Let us begin with an example: -

If one wants intellectual advice on legal matters he goes to an Advocate, for learning language and Art he goes to a teacher, but to learn the way of life, like say agriculture, the time of sowing, planting, taking care of the crops and many other things where only an experienced person can give clarity on minute details one has to go to the Eldest experience person of the village and that’s Saturn.

Saturn knows the roots of culture. Saturn is the back bone of our social strata. When a person goes through Saturn Maha dasha we need to first classify as to whether it is a benefic or a malefic Saturn for that horoscope.

It is not enough to only understand the status and position of Saturn, but also we should understand the mutual position of all the planets from Saturn’s perspective (taking the Maha dasha lord’s position as the 1st house).

If the other planetary positions are good, then Saturn’s dasha and bhuktis (major and minor periods) will be excellent and the native will slowly grow in stature and will become a known figure in the society.

If few of the planets are ill posited from Saturn, then those minor periods within the Major period of Saturn will pose hurdles and difficulties to the native. People who are in business might experience financial difficulties and sluggishness.

In the case Saturn itself is a malefic to the native then again we need to see in which sub dasha (sub lord’s period) is the time going to be better and which planetary period it is going to be bad.

By this we can understand the exact periods in which the native will be comfortable and in which periods will the native suffer from pain and depression.

Likewise, we can advise the native to be careful and cautious.

Saturn is a rectifier, if the native has unnecessarily strayed away from his goal in this life, once he enters the Saturn’s period he will start falling into the path of reality.

All those who were pretending to be friends will get exposed and the harsh truth of reality will come to light. This revelation will be painful, but the experience will be a life time lesson to the native.

People who live by conning and thieving will learn a lesson when they enter into the dasha period of Saturn. They will be hit hard and lose most of what they have acquired illegally.

All those who have been illegally running their businesses will suddenly be exposed and those who are corrupt will end up paying hefty fines, get suspended, transferred, etc.

Those who are honest do not have to worry when they enter into the planetary period of Saturn, since they will be protected.

What are the effects of Saturn with Rahu placed in Capricorn? In such cases, is Saturn Maha dasha good or bad for a Taurus native?

Saturn in Capricorn is an excellent placement since it is in its own sign and fully comfortable.

The only problem is its proximity to Rahu.

But, with all that the distance between Saturn and Rahu is to be known to analyse as to whether the combination yields positive or negative results.

This position is the 9th from Taurus ascendant and makes Saturn a yoga karaka (fortune giver) since it is both the 9th and the 10th lord.

In my Navamsa, Saturn is debilitated with an exalted sun. Is it a good Neecha Banga yoga?

Neecha bhanga Raja Yoga (NBRY) happens when a planet is debilitated in the D1 (Rasi Kundali) chart and the debilitation gets cancelled in the D1 or in the D9 chart due to the placement of the debilitated planet or the dispositor or the Moon.

For example: Venus gets debilitated in the sign of Virgo and if it is placed in the constellation of Uttaraphalguni in the 4th quarter it falls in the sign of Pisces in the D9 (navamsa) chart and hence gets exalted in the D9.

That is, it is debilitated in the D1 and exalted in the D9 and hence NBRY.

In your query you have only suggested the placements in D9 chart without the reference to the D1 chart.

This does not fall under NBRY.

How can Saturn Maha dasha be predicted if Saturn is in the 1st house in Pushya Nakshatra and the Moon is in Taurus?

Moon the ascendant lord of Cancer is exalted in the sign of Taurus in the 11th house. This is an excellent placement.

Saturn is placed in its own Nakshatra Pushya (Constellation) and as per your query you are going through the Maha dasha of Saturn presently.

This placement of Saturn, though not considered as good, will give moderate results due to its mutual placement from the ascendant lord Moon.

Presently both Jupiter and Saturn are transiting over the sign of Capricorn, which is the 7th from Cancer. The period of this transit is not good. The time after May 2021 would be better when Jupiter will pass Saturn and moves in direct motion towards the sign of Aquarius.

Saturn (R) in 1st house Capricorn sign is aspecting mercury (R) in 7th house cancer. What does it mean?

Saturn is retrograde in its own sign and is also the ascendant lord (Capricorn ascendant).

Here Saturn is retrograde. Saturn has gained a lot of strength due to its retrogression and its position in its own house.

This position is good for out of the box thinking and fast calculations.

The placement of Mercury the 6th and the 9th lord in the 7th house (retrograde) makes things eccentric.

The brain of the native runs too fast and hence sometimes erratic. The native will be too sceptical and always rebellious.

It is said that when two retrograde planets see each other (aspect) particularly in the 1–7 axis they multiply their significations.

Here being the 6th lord Mercury might give chronic breathing diseases or even neurological problems (problem of the CNS).

The other combinations and planetary positions have to be verified and analysed before fortifying the same.

Which is the strongest position of Saturn in a chart?

Saturn gives the best of results when it is placed in the 3rd or 6th or 11th in a chart.

Now being a yoga karaka and getting exalted in these houses will give best results.

For example, for Taurus ascendant when Saturn is placed in the sign of Libra and with a strong Venus (let’s say is exalted in the 11th house from Taurus in Pisces).

The above combination is one of the strongest combinations for a native to become an artist, a surgeon, an architect, etc.

Saturn in the ascendant in Taurus is also considered very strong due to its lordship (being the 9th and the 10th lord).

Saturn in the 10th house for Capricorn ascendant will make it exalted and being the ascendant lord will confer Raja yoga.

Saturn in the 9th house for Aquarius ascendant will make the native the luckiest and blessed.Saturn in the 2nd from Capricorn ascendant will also give rise to one of the strongest Dhana yogas.

There are many other strong positions of Saturn.

How is the Saturn placement in the 12th house for Tula Lagna?

Saturn is the 4th and the 5th lord for Tula lagna (Libra ascendant).

Its position in the 12th i.e in the sign of Virgo will give mixed results.

There is a good chance of settling abroad depending on the planetary period the native is going through.

If the ascendant lord is strong and has mutual aspect to Saturn, then there will be progress in life.

What are the results of the Capricorn Ascendant Saturn in the 7th house of Cancer for a female horoscope?

Saturn in the sign of Cancer is considered uncomfortable and weak.

In this case Saturn has gained directional strength since it is posited in the west (7th house).

Also mutually ascendant gains strength due to the aspect of Saturn over it (7th aspect).

Saturn should be giving positive results being the 1st and the 2nd lord and being placed in the 7th house.

What happens when Saturn is in Lagna in Taurus?

Saturn is a very strong benefic for Taurus ascendant as it is the 9th and the 10th lord. Being placed in the ascendant the native will have physical strength and mental stability.

He can rise up to a good level in life. The most important factor would be the placement and association of Venus in the chart (since it is the ascendant lord).

If Venus is well placed and is in a Quadrant or Trine from Saturn, then the native will achieve success in life.

What are the results when Saturn is in Pisces (8th) and Sagittarius (12th) house?

You have given two different positions of Saturn.

In case one, the ascendant falls in the sign of Leo and Saturn being the 6th and the 7th lord is placed in the 8th and in the second case the ascendant is that of Capricorn and the ascendant lord Saturn has moved to the 12th in the sign of Sagittarius.

The first placement is not considered good due to the fact that Saturn is both the 6th (triksthanadhipathi) and the 7th lord (lord of relationships) and is placed in the house of desire, dissatisfaction and hurdles (8th).

In the second case Saturn is the ascendant lord and is disposed in the 12th house and this placement might force the native to go away from family and hometown due to work obligations. In this case if the other placements are good then the native will get settled abroad and will do well in life.

What do Ketu and Saturn in the sign of Pisces in 11th house denote?

One malefic Ketu and an extreme benefic Saturn in the 11th house in Pisces from Taurus ascendant will give eccentric thinking abilities.

You can get into spirituality and achieve greatness.

All this if the ascendant lord Venus and the 5th lord Mercury are well placed.

The placement of Sun also plays an important role.

Becoming an adept in the field of Spirituality and Counseling is not an easy task. You need excellent communications skills, learning capability and calmness.

Hope your chart makes you strong and keeps you stable.

What happens to the Sade Sati or Shani Ketu conjunction when Saturn gets combusted?

When Saturn or any other planet other than Rahu gets combust it loses its strength and becomes weak.

While in Sade Sati, if Saturn gets combust for that period of time the situation will come to ease and the ill effect of Saturn (if it was negative to the native) will lessen.

In the case of the conjunction between Saturn and Ketu, and in this case Saturn is combust, i.e Sun is also in the same sign (or very close to Sun if on the edge of another sign), then the situation is different. The distance between Saturn and Ketu has to be determined to know as to whether Ketu is actually influencing Saturn or not.

If it is influencing then this combination of Sun, Saturn and Ketu is not good for the native’s health. Depending on the placement the native may suffer heart troubles, fracture or go through an operation.

If ketu is not influencing this combination of Saturn and Sun, then the effects of Saturn is totally destroyed by the combustion due to Sun.

Sun takes over the sign and will give results depending on its lordship.

When will Sade Sati start for Kumbh Rashi?

Saturn will be entering Capricorn by end Jan between 24th and 25th and that’s when generally Sadi sati will begin for those who have Moon in Kumbha rasi (Aquarius).

To be more specific, Sade sati of Saturn will happen when Saturn is within 45 degrees from Moon on either side.

So, if Moon in Aquarius is on its farther edge, i.e let’s say 28 degrees. On just by entering Capricorn (let’s say 1 degree into Capricorn) Saturn will be still 57 degrees from natal moon (29 deg of Capricorn + 28 degrees of Aquarius) and hence Sade sati will not have commenced.

When Saturn enters into the 13th degree of Capricorn, Sade sati will commence.

The negative effect of Sade sati would be very less for an Aquarian as it is also a sign owned by Saturn. There would be more positives like travelling, exploring new places and people, settling abroad, etc.

What is a retrograde Saturn in Tula?

Saturn gets exalted at 20 degrees in Tula Rasi (Libra) in the constellation of Swathi.

When it is both retrograde and exalted it acts as though it is debilitated (Uttara kalamrita - by Kalidasa).

It does not actually act as debilitated, but will have gained strength due to Chesta bala (retrograde strength) and also due to its exaltation, but since it is both, it becomes eccentric and unpredictable.

A normal exalted Saturn makes a person decent and perfect in his field. But, when it becomes retrograde and exalted then the behaviour will get transformed and the person will be excellent in his field of work but will be skeptical.

What are the effects of retrograde Saturn at 29 degrees in the 7th house of Cancer sign for a Capricorn ascendant?

A retrograde Saturn in Cancer sign gives mixed results.

The fact that it is posited at 29 degrees does not qualify it to be posited in the 7th house from Capricorn ascendant. That is because we do not know the exact degree of the ascendant.

For example, if the ascendant is at 10 degrees in Capricorn then the placement of Saturn will move on to the 8th house. Adding 15 degrees to 10 degrees of Ascendant would give 25 degrees and hence Saturn in 29 degrees is 4 degrees more than 25 and hence would move on to the next house.

If ascendant is at 18 degrees in Capricorn, then the placement of Saturn would remain in the 7th bhava (house) in the bhava kundali.

What are the effects of Shani in the second house?

If Saturn is a yoga karaka (benefic planet) then its placement in the 2nd house will give good financial status, property and childhood.

If the same Saturn is a malefic, then the above results will modify. In cases where the 2nd lord is well placed, then though Saturn is placed in the 2nd, the 2nd lord due to its innate strength will take care of the significations of the 2nd house.

The lordship of Saturn also matters a lot.

Saturn might be the lord of a dustana (trik houses 6th, 8th and 12th) and placed in the 2nd with a weak 2nd lord.

In the above case the native will suffer childhood and also will be a slow learner. 2nd house signifies primary schooling and also the first school of a child, its home and the first teacher its mother.

Saturn destroys these relationships and hence these moments of life if it is a malefic and the 2nd house is weakly disposed.

There are too many combinations and hence variety of results.

We need to analyse each one of them separately

What is the effect of Shani in the 5th house in the Sagittarius Ascendant?

Saturn delays but never denies. This is a very strong thumb rule one learns as an astrology student.

Saturn in the 5th house will give excellent knowledge when normally placed in the 5th house. Here, Saturn is debilitated in the 5th house since it is the sign of Aries.

With a debilitated Saturn, we need to know how the 5th lord Mars is placed to understand the strength and results of the 5th house.

Other than that, the placement of Saturn in the 5th (being the 2nd and the 3rd lord) is a good placement with regard to stability and character of the person (note: Saturn is not retrograde here).

What will happen if Saturn seats in the 1st house of a chart?

Saturn in the 1st house reminds me of the famous phrase: -

“Slow and steady wins the race”

The people with a benefic Saturn in the ascendant will have a sure and stable head over their shoulders. They believe in hard work and mostly are practical. They do not panic and are always ready for an experiment and experience which will be challenging.

They also do not mind to work long hours and do not get tired of routine. They are hard core honest and expect the people around them to be the same.

Integrity is their mantra to success. They are perfect and sober.

This placement is not liked by now-a-days youth / teens since they feel a person this sober is not fast enough for this modern world.

Saturn is a perfectionist. When you speak to a person with such a strong placement of Saturn (benefic), you will feel you are talking to a walking encyclopaedia. They give respect to knowledge and age. They do not ridicule people, since they know how it feels to get humiliated.

They are mostly silent and focus their energy on working.

What is Sade Sati and mental unrest?

Sade sati of Saturn (the 7 1/2 years of Saturn) begins when Saturn enters the 12th house from Moon and traverses the 12th, 1st and the 2nd from Moon.

For every 30 degrees (one sign) Saturn approximately takes 2 1/2 years and hence will take a period of 7 1/2 years for a full term of Sade Sati.

Since Moon represents the Mind, the thought process and the thinking ability the effect of Saturn (which is usually a slow moving and cold planet) will slow down things. The things around the native will start seeming dull and boring.

The native will become depressed due to this effect. In many cases Sade Sati of Saturn (for those native wherein Saturn is a benefic) the natives start new initiatives and businesses and make very good financial gains in the 7 1/2-year period.

In some cases, wherein the ascendant lord is not strong, the native will get tense, anxious and the fear of failure will creep into the mind-set.

This is a very dangerous thing to happen. The best remedy would be to get into activity like exercising, morning walk, get along with friends, play, etc.

Basically when Saturn is hovering over Moon the native will get deep into a shell protected by his/her own identity. This we call as depression. They become stubborn and are not ready to listen.

Parents should take up the responsibility of their children and focus on cheering up child rather than start pointing out mistakes or even pass sarcastic remarks.

In cases of adults, it would be best to support them and listen to them. Be with them and help them come out of the depression.

Gardening, Painting, Outdoor activities, etc. will help one to gel with people and come out of anxiety.

Astrologically, Saturn will be continuously rectifying our paths. For example, if we are doing something which is not destined or is out of our limits then Saturn without mercy corrects our path. One might experience pain and discomfort to adjust to the corrections in life, but Saturn has its own way and we need to abide.

This is a very good query and I hope many would give their valuable inputs.

Effect of Saturn in 6th house for Sagittarius Ascendant?

For Sagittarius ascendant Saturn becomes the 2nd and 3rd lord and its position in the sign of Taurus (being the 6th house from Sagittarius) is very good.

This position will give strength and perseverance to the native. The native will never get bored of routine and will actually help and serve the poor.

This is also a good position to serve in the Govt. and get into good positions.

In my Navamsa, Saturn is debilated with an exalted sun.

What will be the effect of the 3rd Sadhe Saati in life?

We usually call this term of Sade saati as the last cycle, unless the horoscope has Poornaayu (full term longevity of over 100 years).

In this period the psychological self and hence also the physical body will be influenced by Saturn. Sluggishness will creep into the mind and hence it is required to keep the mind active.

People who are mentally fit and also physically fit should find some activity to keep themselves engaged.

Age will start showing due to the effect of Saturn.

The best treatment and remedy for the 3rd round of Sade Saati of Saturn is to practice Pranayama on a daily basis. Do not decrease too much in diet and intake. Necessary nutritional intake is required to keep the bones and muscles strong.

What is the meaning of having exalted Saturn in the Navamsa chart?

If Saturn is exalted in the Navamsa (D9) chart, then it is an indication that you have done good in your past life and you have a good D9 chart which is supported by Saturn.

Saturn Maha dasha and bhukti (major and minor periods) will be good with regard to Married life and relationships.

GEMSTONES AND ITS UTILITY

When and Why should we wear gemstones????

When should we wear and why should we wear gemstones? Whether it has to be worn when a planet is negative or when the planet is weak? And if we wear, will the planet become positive or will it become strong or whether to enhance the positive weak planet or to enhance a positive strong planet? What should we do and when should we wear a gemstone? These are the frequently asked questions about wearing a Gemstone.
Planets need to be classified or categorised based on being natural benefics or malefics due to their characteristics. So if a natural benefic is ill placed and being a yoga karaka planet for that horoscope then what should be suggested?

Let’s take an example of Jupiter. If in a horoscope Jupiter is well placed but with inimical influence i.e. posited along with enemy planets or malefic planets, it becomes weak. Let’s consider Cancer Ascendant for which Jupiter is the 6th and the 9th Lord. If it is posited in the 9th House i.e. along with Saturn and Rahu, Jupiter though placed in its own house and a strong trine it loses much of its positive energy. In this case we can wear a gemstone for Jupiter which will actually enhances its strength to fight the negative influences of Rahu and Saturn and will individually try to give some good benefic results to the native.

Now let’s take another example where for the same Cancer ascendant Jupiter is posited in the 6th house i.e. Sagittarius along with Rahu and Saturn. Here in this case, the native should not wear a gemstone of Jupiter. Because by wearing a gemstone of Jupiter the native will enhance the qualities of 6th House creating more hurdles in his life. All the planets except the luminaries have ownership on two houses. Jupiter also has dual lordship but because of its placement its orientation will be more towards the ninth house if it is placed in Meena i.e. Pisces (9th House) and if placed in Sagittarius here it will be more strong as the 6th Lord than the 9th Lord because of its position in the 6th house. Also Sagittarius is the moola trikona sign for Jupiter hence wearing a yellow Topaz or yellow sapphire in this particular combination will be harmful for the native.

Let’s take another example of Pisces Lagna. Moon is the 5th Lord and if it is debilitated (posited in Scorpio i.e. in the 9th house) and conjunct Saturn (the 11th and 12th Lord for Pisces Lagna) should we wear a gemstone related to Moon to enhance its strength or should we avoid it?

In this case we can wear a Moon stone because the Moon is basically a trikona lord (5th lord) and it has moved to another important trikona (the 9th). We should always enhance the strength of a planet which moves from 1st to 5th or from 5th to 9th. Here Moon is weak due to its placement but not malefic. In this combination the thought process and thinking ability of the native would have slowed down due to the weak placement of Moon and wearing a Gemstone like the Moon stone would bring in positive results.

If in the above context Moon is placed in Cancer along with Rahu and Saturn, then it becomes the 5th lord placed in the 5th house and hence Moon is quite strong. In this scenario a Gem Stone is not required. Moon is well placed and will give good positive results.

A malefic planet in a malefic house should we enhance it?
For example - Mars in 6th house. Yes in this case you should enhance Mars. Wearing a Coral is unethical and should be avoided by all means, since coral is not a stone, it’s an animal. It is unethical to kill an animal and wear its body part on our finger. As an alternate we can wear Blood stone which is the best for Mars.

Why should we enhance Mars?
Boosting Mars will enhance competitive spirit because it is posited in 6th house.

What is a malefic house?
For each planet malefic house differs. Normally the 6th and the 11th houses are considered malefic since both represent roga (illness). Saturn gives benefic results when placed in the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses. The 3rd house is the best. The same three houses are good for Sun. Though both these planets are opposites they have common good placements. In the 3rd house which is the Parakrama sthana (house of valour) one needs to have patience and also valour. For patience Saturn is required and for valour Sun is required. It’s not the same for Mars. For Mars we have other houses, like if Mars is posited in 7th, it is good. The person will be open towards relationships or mingling with people. People associate the term relationship with the opposite gender for the purpose of lust.

For a person who has to be good in marketing and selling products or if he has to sell a concept, he needs to know his environment and take quick decisions. This quality is given by Mars. Lust is a part and parcel of Mars in 7th. But 7th Mars if it is aspected by Jupiter or yoga karaka planet Saturn then the person will be ethical in his behaviour.

Let’s take another example - if we enhance Shukra i.e. Venus the person will be excellent in his skills but the other qualities of Shukra will also get enhanced. A strong Venus in the natal chart by birth can make the native a very good artist, ex. a good singer, a painter etc. He might become popular and famous but along with that he might also indulge in other unethical relationships.

For example - What if a person is going through Jupiter Dasha and if he wants to wear a  Gomed (Hessonite Garnet)?

Pukhraj  or a yellow topaz is for Jupiter and if Jupiter is well placed then we can say go ahead to wear the stone Pukhraj but if he asks for a drastically opposite gemstone i.e. gomedh (it is a honey colour stone) which is for Rahu, it is like wearing a gemstone totally opposite to the significations of the planet Jupiter. But in some cases where Jupiter is placed in 11th and Rahu is placed in 2nd we can wear a Gomed during Jupiter dasha.
But in case if Jupiter is placed in 5th and Rahu is placed in 11th, in this case we should not recommend wearing a Gomed. It is because both are aspecting each other (i.e. 7th aspect which is also known as an inimical aspect). So by wearing Gomed Rahu’s strength will get enhanced and overshadow Jupiter which is in the 5th.

The fifth house which is the house of progeny, honesty, imagination, creativity etc. will be spoilt and trampled by Rahu from the 11th. Unethical means of earnings is its signification. Everybody wants earnings from different sources but we should know the means we earn it. We need to think and as Astrologers we have to be careful in suggesting any gemstone. Earning income from unethical sources is not required and since it is easy it will make the native get caught in it.
There are more than 200 combinations to decide whether to wear a gemstone or not.

Let’s say if we suggest a person not to wear any gemstone at all, then it may be  because the person is going through Sade Sati. We should not restrict our analysis to the nine avasthas (status) of the planets but also need to see many other aspects of Position, Aspect and Conjunction. For ex. - if Mars and Jupiter are at war i.e. if Mars and Jupiter both are placed within one degree with Mars having the highest longitude then Mars wins the war.
For example: - suppose Mars is at 13 degrees 20 minutes and Jupiter is at 13 degrees and conjunct, then we know that Mars is ahead by Jupiter only by 20 minutes.  In this case Mars wins the war. Though Jupiter is a beneficial planet it will not be able to give any benefic results because it has lost the war. If Mars is benefic to that Lagna then the native can wear a gemstone related to Jupiter because Jupiter has to overcome the defeat. In this case suggesting a gemstone for Mars would not be benefic for it will totally spoil Jupiter’s positive qualities. We need to see and check many aspects like yogas, strengths, etc.

There are different types of gemstones for yogas. For example if dasha of Gajakesari yoga is running, the combination of gemstones is suggested in the same ring or by wearing two rings on the same finger.
Another example is - Budhaaditya yoga. We can wear both Ruby and Emerald stones together in the ring finger because they are friends and this combination will enhance the quality of this yoga.
Another example is when both Mercury and Jupiter are placed in 12th house however benefic they are for that Lagna, due to their placement and position wearing their gemstones will not be a good suggestion.

I have cited many examples in this article, but have not covered all the important ones. When time permits, I will be writing more.

KENDRAS AND TRIKONAS

Quadrants (Kendra’s) 1, 4, 7 and 10 are also known as Dharma (1st), Artha (2nd), Kama (3rd) and Moksha (4th).

Dharma represents Lagna/Ascendant, i.e., the First House - Righteousness.

Artha (Finance to live in this world). It’s the money, finance, economy and everything which makes the material world moving i.e. the 4th House.

The 3rd Quadrant is the 7th House, i.e. Kama. Kama means attraction towards the materialistic world. It signifies the desire to own things, i.e., materialistic desires or any attraction towards whatever you see, touch, feel, etc.

Moksha is to attain peace by eliminating all the above three by performing actions, i.e. the 10th House.  Hence 10th House, it is the way and means of getting Moksha by doing righteous karmas, by earning and making the money flow in the right direction and to have the best kind of relationship with the creation. The less we prioritize 1, 4 and 7, the more we can focus towards performing the 10th.

The highest prominence is always given to the highest degree of longitude and that is the 10th House, which is known as the karma sthana (the house which represents Duty bound responsible actions).

Trines or Trikonas represent the Body, Mind and Soul, i.e., 1st, 5th and 9th Houses.

Here Body which means all the parts and organs of the Human Body as a whole is represented by the 1st house i.e. the Lagna.
The Mind is represented by accumulated memory both organized and unorganized (Organized memory - which is known as knowledge and unorganized memory – random experiences). The knowledge might be acquired through thought, imagination, books, experiences, etc.

This self interactive thought process which has the ability to learn and adapt is known as the mind and is represented by the 5th House.

Soul - here Soul for the basic understanding means as follows: -
1st level Consciousness
2nd Level (advance) Conscience
3rd Introspection using the consciousness into deeper levels of the mind and try to understand what is within you.
4th Self Realization which is the final step of the soul, where it is to connect with the Macrocosm and be in sync with it.

What is Consciousness and Conscience?

Conscience depends upon the upbringing and the environment where a person is brought up. For ex. – if someone around you is eating egg or non-veg, as a vegetarian you would feel that he or she is committing a crime by killing an innocent animal. But if we go to places like Siberia, Russia or other cold areas where vegetables cannot be grown (due to the climatic conditions), there it’s a everyday lifestyle and there if we ask them that why do you kill animals like rein deer, musk deer, lion seal, walrus, etc., they will tell you that it is the only way to survive. Hence in this case they are not doing anything against their Conscience. For basic survival they have to kill or else surviving would be a question mark.

The conscience of the person depends upon on the social ethical values which he experiences through the community or the society in which he has been brought up and it varies from place to place, or we can say region to region.

Conscience also means - to differentiate between right and wrong. Let’s understand this by an example - if you lie to someone then where ever in the world you are, you are deemed to be wrong.  i.e., speaking a lie or following honesty is universal whether it is in India or Russia or America or any other place in the world.  So these human values like empathy, anger, sympathy, sorrow, happiness are all links between the mind and the soul.

Hence 5th and the 9th are given very less importance. In the real world where business is norm of life, human beings are running around for most of the hours and rest of the hours the person is sleeping i.e., he is unconscious. When a person is conscious his conscience, his self-realization, his mind set, his ethical values, his social commitment has to be in active mode. If these factors are asleep and only the Lagna that is the body starts functioning he will be a shrewd businessman who is not even bothered about what the other person thinks of or feels. Hence when an astrologer goes through charts he needs to see the placement of planets in these four Kendras and also three Trikonas. The Lagna becomes both the Kendra and the Trikona so it has the body and also it follows righteousness so that a person who has all good planets placed in all these 6 houses, the 1st , 4th , 7th , 10th , 5th  and 9th  is said to be a perfect person, this type of combination is not available on this earth. Since this combination is not available the complexity of astrology comes into play and you need to analyze each house with regard to its strength and positivity.

We need to check whether the planet which is present in the soul i.e., if the 9th House is placed well or not, whether the planet which represents business that is mercury is placed in the right place or not. What if mercury is placed in the house of meditation? In this typical case the business aspect is killed and the meditation aspect is also spoiled. That is to say, Mercury being a hyperactive planet will not allow you to do meditation and also not strong enough to do business. Hence Mercury being the planet who is a purely business planet has to be placed in a business Rashi like Libra and in the same way a creative planet like Venus or Moon has to be placed in a creative house that is 5th house. If they are placed in the house of reality or daily routine, you will not get full benefit out of it.

Planets like Saturn and Jupiter can be placed anywhere because they are slow moving and they have got dual characteristics.  Like Jupiter is both a righteous and a Dhana karaka planet. Hence it can give good prospects in business along with wealth and knowledge.  Saturn makes a person realize the importance of reality, truthfulness, honesty, etc. Frank opinions and fighting for justice can be attributed to Saturn. If Saturn is placed in the 10th House, the person will perform actions righteously. Responsibility is also one of the most important significations of Saturn and because of this it would not let the native to deviate from his path of righteousness. Hence we can say that the placement of planets is extremely important to understand the characteristics of a person. Also as Astrologers we can understand how to rectify the negative aspects of planets.

Now let us understand the term “Rectification?”

Purushartha is the term used to define the free will of a person to think, plan and perform a particular action. What if a person can liberate himself from the influence of the planets and perform karma? It is like saying that the person has his “Mind over Matter”. Here rectification means to go above these planetary influences and try to correct our path for the well being of both mind and soul. If we succumb to the forces of negativity of these planetary influences then we become the slaves under the planets. Our five senses get caught into the web of miseries and the whole world would seem like a dark never ending saga. We should be able to rule and control the five senses and the working of planets by performing our duties i.e., our karmas correctly. Usually people fall prey to these planetary influences and lose control over mind and actions.  It would be like continuously getting entangled into the situations without knowing the way out.

It’s not that Rectification means to only pray or perform ritual sacrifices to God. There are several scientific means of rectification wherein a person would have to set right his routine, lifestyle, eating habits, behavioral patterns, sleep patterns, etc.

Scientific methods of rectification help much better than traditional methods in the present world.

Sasa Yoga of Saturn

Sasa Yoga of Saturn

Career development is an integral part of everyone’s life. There are many basic questions related directly or indirectly with the aspect of career development like,

·       When will I get my first job?
·       When will I get a well paying job?
·       When will I get my promotion?
·       Whether I would be selected in the campus interview? Etc…….

Saturn’s placement and the Sasa yoga play an important role in answering the above questions.

Sasa Yoga is conferred when Saturn is exalted or is in its own house (i.e., Capricorn and Aquarius) and is in Kendra (i.e., 1,4,7 or 10th) from the Lagna/Ascendant. This yoga will give its desired results only when Saturn Maha dasha or Antar dasha or Pratyantar dasha is in operation.

Sasa Yoga will have different strength and would give different levels of results based on its position, aspect and conjunction. Here we will discuss the various rashis and the Sasa yoga formed in their case.

Why Sasa Yoga is so important for Career Development?

This is because Saturn is the only planet which has the 10th aspect i.e, aspect on the karmasthana and he is also the karaka for the 10th house. No other planet has the 10th aspect. Also in its dasha period if we take dashalord as the lagna/Ascendant then Saturn will aspect the 10th house from there. During this period, Saturn will make all the corrections required for the native. It will actually reward or punish him depending upon its position in the natal chart. Sasa yoga plays an important part in the native’s career, well being, status, position in the society, source of income, etc.

For Aries (Mesha) Lagna – Saturn is the 10th and 11th Lord. Sasa Yoga will form when it is placed in Capricorn i.e., 10th from aries. In this case, Saturn is the karmadhipati and upachaya sthanadhipati, hence this sasa yoga would be beneficial to the native and would help him to develop and progress in his career during saturn’s period. Also Sasa yoga is formed when Saturn is placed in the 7th (Exalted in Libra) from Aries.  In this case Saturn will give mixed results as it is placed in the 7th which possess a direct opposition to Lagna.

For Taurus Lagna – Saturn being the 9th and 10th lord when is placed in the 10th house i.e. in Aquarius confers Both Sasa Yoga and Maha Raja Yoga. This position of Saturn would be very beneficial to the native and is ranked number 2 position. This will take the native to new heights and achieve higher goals in his life.

For Cancer Lagna – Saturn is the 7th and the 8th Lord. Though Saturn is not a pure benefic planet for this lagna but if it is posited in the 4th i.e. in Libra, its exaltation point, it will bestow good results on the native. In this case 7th Saturn i.e. in Capricorn though confers Sasa Yoga would be less beneficial as compared to Sasa yoga formed with Saturn in 4th house.

For Leo Lagna – Saturn is the 6th and the 7th Lord. It is not a benefic planet for this lagna hence Sasa yoga formed in this scenario will not be as powerful as compared to other Lagna. Sasa yoga will form when Saturn will be posited in 7th house i.e. in Aquarius. In this particular case, a Retro Saturn posited in 7th will be more beneficial than a direct Saturn. A direct Saturn will boost and give more Ego to the native. Being a Leo lagna, the native would already be thinking very high of himself. So a direct Saturn in 7th house will add on to this and pump up the Ego of the native resulting in negative results. This combination may spoil many good things in native’s life.

For all the four corners i.e. the dual rashis (Gemini, Virgo, Saggitarius and Pisces) Sasa Yoga is not applicable.

For Libra Lagna – Saturn is the 4th and the 5th Lord for this lagna. The best Sasa Yoga is formed when Saturn is in lagna itself. It makes the native very strong in character, personality and a determined person. The placement of Saturn in libra confers a very strong Dhana Yoga. The native will have immense wealth and he would not have to face any monetary problems in most of his life time. Even the placement of Saturn in Makara gives Sasa yoga but the former position of Saturn is much more beneficial as compared to this latter position.

For Scorpio Lagna – Saturn is the 3rd and the 4th Lord. Saturn’s placement in the Aquarius confers Sasa Yoga. Being the lord of 3rd house i.e. Upachaya Sthana , it would give good results but being the 4th lord the results would be of mixed nature.

For Capricorn Lagna -  Saturn is the 1st and the 2nd lord. Sasa yoga is conferred when Saturn is placed either in the Lagna itself or in the 10th House i.e. in libra. Out of these two placements, Saturn posited in the Libra is the best Sasa Yoga formed. We can also rank this position of Saturn as the number 1 followed by Taurus lagna (Saturn in Aquarius) and 3rd position by Libra lagna (Saturn in Libra).

Why Capricorn Lagna Sasa Yoga formed in Libra is the strongest?

Saturn being the lagna and the 2nd lord posited in 10th gives immense strength to the horoscope. This is the strongest Dhana and Karma Yoga. Also Lagna lord posited in 10th confers Amala Yoga. This position of Saturn gives poornaayu.

For Aquarius Lagna – Saturn is the 1st and the 12th Lord. Saturn’s position in Lagna itself confers Sasa Yoga. This Sasa yoga would give normal results. The native will see both ups and downs during Saturn’s period because along with the lagna lord , it is also the 12th Lord. The native can immigrate to foreign lands if the chart is supported by other planets like Retro Jupiter/Rahu, etc.

Sasa Yoga is the only Yoga which makes a person selfless. All the other yogas make a person selfish in some way or the other, but Sasa yoga is purely selfless in nature.

Even with the Gajakesari Yoga (formed with a combination of Jupiter and Moon) the native would want recognition, fame, respect, honour, felicitations, etc.. The native in this case wants social/public recognition.

If any person has developed or progressed or scaled heights in his life due to Sasa Yoga, then it is very clear that it is because of sheer hard work, perseverance and determination. There is no short-cut or luck playing the role. It’s purely efforts of the native himself.

The answer to questions pertaining to career, jobs, promotions etc. , Saturn’s position in the natal chart and its transit plays an important role. When Saturn transits over 10th house or the 10th lord beneficially, it triggers positive events. Benefic transit of Saturn is – when it transits over 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th house from Lagna or the Moon. During this transit period, the native’s running dasha should also be favorable and supportive.

Abroad Travel

Abroad Travel

When classics where written thousands of years ago travelling abroad or even going to far-off lands was considered a taboo. With this perception, one should understand the implications of the yoga which suggests that a native may visit/travel or settle abroad.

The parameters for abroad travel or immigration is as follows:

1. 3rd lord/house (short travel)
2. 7th lord/house (business travels)
3. 9th lord/house (Long journeys)
4. 12th lord/house (displacement from place of stay)
5. 4th lord/house (present place of stay)
6. Rahu/Ketu (Mlechcha Grahas – represents foreign lands and people)

When 3rd/7th/9th lords are strong and are associated with fast moving planets travel should be predicted.  Also if the 3rd/7th/9th house fall in a chara rasi (movable sign) then travel should be predicted.  Here as said above the purpose of travel gets modified depending on the lord and on the type of planets influencing it.

For example, when Rahu influences then there would be travel abroad to places where non-vegetarian food is used.  It also suggests that the cultural practices would be different from the place from which the native hails.  In simple words it is a change a Villager experiences when he/she enters New York (USA).

Shift residence from one city to another within a certain distance is seen from the 3rd house (12th from the 4th).  But if the displacement is for a far-off place then the influence of the 12th lord or house is a very important factor. If benefic planets are aspecting this change then the change would be profitable and vice-versa.

If there is a strong dhana yoga in a chart with the influence of the 12th lord on the 2nd then it should be understood that the native may get profits from foreign lands and if there is travel associated then one should understand that there would be immigration to foreign land.

Here transit of Jupiter and Saturn plays an important role to understand the timing of travel.  In cases of immigration one common query is to whether the native will be immigrating alone or he will be able to take his family with him.  In this case, we need to analyse the position of the 2nd lord and the 2nd house.  If there is sufficient bhava bala in the 2nd and the Dasha/bhukti is favourable then one should suggest that the native will be able to take his family members along with him to foreign lands.

For example, if Saturn is transiting over the 2nd bhava (which signifies food) then one should understand that the native will be deprived of home food and hence would have to eat out (outside food from eateries). This may be for a temporary period or may extend to 2 to 3 years if the 2nd lord is badly posited in the natives chart.

Some usual queries with regard to abroad travel are:

1.     I am trying to get immigration to a country but am not able to make it through. When will I be able to go abroad?

Ans.: In many charts the 9th lord may not be favourably posited or would not be influencing the 12th.  Though the native is trying hard with all his effort, there may not be success in the getting immigration.  Calculation using Tajaka principles will be able to give more accurate timing.  Using the formulae suggested in Ithasala yoga will help in determining as to whether the native will be successful in the present year or not.

Strong 9th and 12th lords give the native profitable travels and also immigration.  If the 4th house is weaker than the 10th and the 9th and 12th lords are favourably posited that then native will get a work permit and later will settle down in a foreign country.

Strong Jupiter in the lagna, Jupiter in the 4th, lagna lord strongly posited in the 4th, Lagna bala and 4th house bhava bala are strong, etc. will not allow a person to immigrate abroad, until and unless, there is a stronger 12th/9th influence.

Owning a House

Owning a House

Its a dream for every individual to own a house. Some times house building becomes easy and the native with good planetary positions will not go through any pain in the process of building or in the process for shifting into the property.  But, in many cases it is not easy at all.  There is a local saying which says "Building a House is as difficult as getting your daughter married to the right person".

The parameters for owing a house are:

1. Mercury (Signifies land/plot)
2. Jupiter (Signifies Air)
3. Mars (Signifies Earth)
4. 4th house and its lord (signify the place of stay)
5. Venus (Signifies architecture/design/luxury)

When lagna (ascendant) signifies place of birth, the 4th from it signifies the place of stay.  To buy a landed property it is required that in a horoscope, the placement of Mercury plays an important role.  Its influence on the 4th house or the 4th lord will give the native a strong chance to own a landed property in its dasha period.

The transit of Saturn and Jupiter on the 4th / 10th makes the 4th strong (if they both are not retro).  Only in some cases a retro Jupiter will help in buying property which is far away from the natives birth place.  Like an NRI buying a land in India or vise-versa.

If there is a strong influence of natal Jupiter (Jupiter in the horoscope) on the 4th house or the 4th lord, then the native will buy a flat (elevated from ground) in an apartment.  Jupiter signifies elevated lands and an elevated seat.  It also signifies big and spacious buildings.

Venus's influence on the 4th will give artistic touch to the property.  The native will hire architects to build the house and hence the house will be luxurious and beautiful.

If the 6th house is influenced by the 4th lord or vice-versa, then the native will build the house after borrowing loan from financial institutions.

Mars plays an important role as to buying a large landed property, wherein the native may plan to build a house and use the rest of the land for business.  Mars is taken to be a natural malefic, but in the case of house building, Mars and Rahu are considered good, since they represent accumulation of material wealth.

If the native has a favourably posited Saturn in his chart, then there will not be any labour problem.  But, in the case wherein Saturn is ill posited or debilated, then there would be delay in the construction due to labour problems.

Will be discussing about Ancestral property in later blogs.

FAQ’s of Marriage

1.       When will I get married?

Astrological parameters to be checked are: 7th Lord and 7th House, Maha dasha planet (Majorperiod) and Antar dasha Planet (Sub period),  Transit of Jupiter and Saturn, 5th lord and 9th lord, Navamsha Kundali (D-9 Divisional Chart).

If the 7th lord is strongly placed with a favourable planetary dasha and also a strong influence on the 7th house (bhava) by the transiting planets Jupiter/Saturn, then there is a very good chance that the native will get married in that period or will get engaged.

If there is support of the 5th lord and the 9th lord, then the native will fall in love with his spouse before marriage (in case of arranged marriage) or will go through a successful love marriage which is blessed by both the parents.

The ascendant should have fallen in a benefic amsa in D-9.  Venus should be well placed (karaka for marriage).    Karaka means “one who signifies.”

2.  Will I be happy after marriage?

Everyone wants a happy marriage. This is a question which is asked the most by parents when they are seeking a spouse for their son or daughter. They want to know whether their son/daughter will be happy after his/her marriage.

The parameters for a happy married life is not easy to be listed.

But, generally, for a good and stable marriage, Jupiter and Venus play an important role in ones chart.  Their placement will suggest as to whether there is spark in the married life or not.

The 7th house should be void of malefic and it should not be flanked by malefic planets (planets should not be posited on either side i.e. both in the 6th and 8th)

The lagnadhipati (ascendant lord) should be strong and the trik stanas (6-8-12 houses) should be void of planets or only malefic planets should be posited there.

Kendra lords and Kendras (Quadrants) should be well posited.

After all these parameters are satisfied, there are more parameters which have to be checked and since it is a detailed study all the parameters cannot be listed here.

3.  I am in love and will I marry him/her?

Marrying the person whom you love would be the most beautiful thing that has happened in your life. Not all love affairs end up in marriage.

Parameters for a love marriage: 5th house/lord for romance, 7th house/lord for an intimate affair and the 9th house/lord for elders blessing/approval.

Most of the time we see that the couple who love each other are in the fear of disagreement from their parents.  It’s very rare that both the boy’s and the girl’s parents agree to the marriage.

The agreement of parents is seen form the 9th house and the 9th lords position in the chart.  If the 9th lord is strong and is aspecting the 7th house or the 7th lord then there will be elders blessing.

If the 5th is well placed with aspect of Venus then there will be a romantic love affair.  If there is an affliction of Mars on the 5th house, then there will be an affair which may not be that romantic but will be more intimate.

4.  My marriage is going through a rough patch, will it patch up or how many years should I suffer?

If there are malefic influences on the 7th and their (that planets) dasha is in progress, then the marriage will be going through ups and downs.

If the transiting Jupiter becomes retro over the 7th house or the 7th lord then there will be a temporary misunderstanding between the couple.

If one can see a good period in the future which will be a benefic planet and that planet is well placed in the horoscope, then the native will come out of the suffering and the marriage will patch up.

But, in the same scenario, if there is a malefic dasa of a slow planet like Saturn, Rahu or Ketu  then there is a chance that the marriage will break up.

The following dasha periods are not good for a stable marriage.
a)      Jupiter / Saturn
b)      Jupiter/ Venus
c)       Saturn/Rahu
d)      Rahu/Mercury
e)      Sun/Ketu or Sun/Rahu

It is always important to conduct a marriage when both the boy and the girl are not going through the dasha systems which are listed above. Also the upcoming dasha period should not be the above ones. It is difficult to adhere to these rules due to many factors, of which aging is the most important factor.

If there is a beneficial dasha following the time of query, one should give the native a hope of reconcile.

If the lagnadhipati is weakly disposed and the 7th lord is strong with malefic influences, then the native may have to go through this till the dasha/antardasha becomes favourable.

The transits of Saturn and Jupiter play an important role in this case. A benefic Jupiter will give good financial gains and a benefic Saturn will give a sane mind.  Both of these factors help a marriage to be stable.

5.   I have gone through a divorce. Can I remarry and when is that?

This is also one of the common queries now-a-days.
The parameters for second marriage are: The 9th house and lord, Venus, Mars and the transits of Jupiter and Saturn.

The 9th house represents the second marriage (3rd from the 7th house – bhavat bhava principle).  A strong 9th lord will give a stable and happy second marriage.  Also the placement of benefics like Venus/Jupiter in the 9th will help.

The Maha dasha lord and the Antar dasha lord will help in deciding the timing of marriage and the quality of married life in their period.

The placement of Mars is important in this case.  Mars gives the hope in life and hence in cases of depression after the divorce of the first marriage a benefic Mars aspect will be helpful for revival.  The native will make up his/her mind to get into another relationship after garnering courage.
