Sasa Yoga of Saturn

Sasa Yoga of Saturn

Career development is an integral part of everyone’s life. There are many basic questions related directly or indirectly with the aspect of career development like,

·       When will I get my first job?
·       When will I get a well paying job?
·       When will I get my promotion?
·       Whether I would be selected in the campus interview? Etc…….

Saturn’s placement and the Sasa yoga play an important role in answering the above questions.

Sasa Yoga is conferred when Saturn is exalted or is in its own house (i.e., Capricorn and Aquarius) and is in Kendra (i.e., 1,4,7 or 10th) from the Lagna/Ascendant. This yoga will give its desired results only when Saturn Maha dasha or Antar dasha or Pratyantar dasha is in operation.

Sasa Yoga will have different strength and would give different levels of results based on its position, aspect and conjunction. Here we will discuss the various rashis and the Sasa yoga formed in their case.

Why Sasa Yoga is so important for Career Development?

This is because Saturn is the only planet which has the 10th aspect i.e, aspect on the karmasthana and he is also the karaka for the 10th house. No other planet has the 10th aspect. Also in its dasha period if we take dashalord as the lagna/Ascendant then Saturn will aspect the 10th house from there. During this period, Saturn will make all the corrections required for the native. It will actually reward or punish him depending upon its position in the natal chart. Sasa yoga plays an important part in the native’s career, well being, status, position in the society, source of income, etc.

For Aries (Mesha) Lagna – Saturn is the 10th and 11th Lord. Sasa Yoga will form when it is placed in Capricorn i.e., 10th from aries. In this case, Saturn is the karmadhipati and upachaya sthanadhipati, hence this sasa yoga would be beneficial to the native and would help him to develop and progress in his career during saturn’s period. Also Sasa yoga is formed when Saturn is placed in the 7th (Exalted in Libra) from Aries.  In this case Saturn will give mixed results as it is placed in the 7th which possess a direct opposition to Lagna.

For Taurus Lagna – Saturn being the 9th and 10th lord when is placed in the 10th house i.e. in Aquarius confers Both Sasa Yoga and Maha Raja Yoga. This position of Saturn would be very beneficial to the native and is ranked number 2 position. This will take the native to new heights and achieve higher goals in his life.

For Cancer Lagna – Saturn is the 7th and the 8th Lord. Though Saturn is not a pure benefic planet for this lagna but if it is posited in the 4th i.e. in Libra, its exaltation point, it will bestow good results on the native. In this case 7th Saturn i.e. in Capricorn though confers Sasa Yoga would be less beneficial as compared to Sasa yoga formed with Saturn in 4th house.

For Leo Lagna – Saturn is the 6th and the 7th Lord. It is not a benefic planet for this lagna hence Sasa yoga formed in this scenario will not be as powerful as compared to other Lagna. Sasa yoga will form when Saturn will be posited in 7th house i.e. in Aquarius. In this particular case, a Retro Saturn posited in 7th will be more beneficial than a direct Saturn. A direct Saturn will boost and give more Ego to the native. Being a Leo lagna, the native would already be thinking very high of himself. So a direct Saturn in 7th house will add on to this and pump up the Ego of the native resulting in negative results. This combination may spoil many good things in native’s life.

For all the four corners i.e. the dual rashis (Gemini, Virgo, Saggitarius and Pisces) Sasa Yoga is not applicable.

For Libra Lagna – Saturn is the 4th and the 5th Lord for this lagna. The best Sasa Yoga is formed when Saturn is in lagna itself. It makes the native very strong in character, personality and a determined person. The placement of Saturn in libra confers a very strong Dhana Yoga. The native will have immense wealth and he would not have to face any monetary problems in most of his life time. Even the placement of Saturn in Makara gives Sasa yoga but the former position of Saturn is much more beneficial as compared to this latter position.

For Scorpio Lagna – Saturn is the 3rd and the 4th Lord. Saturn’s placement in the Aquarius confers Sasa Yoga. Being the lord of 3rd house i.e. Upachaya Sthana , it would give good results but being the 4th lord the results would be of mixed nature.

For Capricorn Lagna -  Saturn is the 1st and the 2nd lord. Sasa yoga is conferred when Saturn is placed either in the Lagna itself or in the 10th House i.e. in libra. Out of these two placements, Saturn posited in the Libra is the best Sasa Yoga formed. We can also rank this position of Saturn as the number 1 followed by Taurus lagna (Saturn in Aquarius) and 3rd position by Libra lagna (Saturn in Libra).

Why Capricorn Lagna Sasa Yoga formed in Libra is the strongest?

Saturn being the lagna and the 2nd lord posited in 10th gives immense strength to the horoscope. This is the strongest Dhana and Karma Yoga. Also Lagna lord posited in 10th confers Amala Yoga. This position of Saturn gives poornaayu.

For Aquarius Lagna – Saturn is the 1st and the 12th Lord. Saturn’s position in Lagna itself confers Sasa Yoga. This Sasa yoga would give normal results. The native will see both ups and downs during Saturn’s period because along with the lagna lord , it is also the 12th Lord. The native can immigrate to foreign lands if the chart is supported by other planets like Retro Jupiter/Rahu, etc.

Sasa Yoga is the only Yoga which makes a person selfless. All the other yogas make a person selfish in some way or the other, but Sasa yoga is purely selfless in nature.

Even with the Gajakesari Yoga (formed with a combination of Jupiter and Moon) the native would want recognition, fame, respect, honour, felicitations, etc.. The native in this case wants social/public recognition.

If any person has developed or progressed or scaled heights in his life due to Sasa Yoga, then it is very clear that it is because of sheer hard work, perseverance and determination. There is no short-cut or luck playing the role. It’s purely efforts of the native himself.

The answer to questions pertaining to career, jobs, promotions etc. , Saturn’s position in the natal chart and its transit plays an important role. When Saturn transits over 10th house or the 10th lord beneficially, it triggers positive events. Benefic transit of Saturn is – when it transits over 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th house from Lagna or the Moon. During this transit period, the native’s running dasha should also be favorable and supportive.

Owning a House

Owning a House

Its a dream for every individual to own a house. Some times house building becomes easy and the native with good planetary positions will not go through any pain in the process of building or in the process for shifting into the property.  But, in many cases it is not easy at all.  There is a local saying which says "Building a House is as difficult as getting your daughter married to the right person".

The parameters for owing a house are:

1. Mercury (Signifies land/plot)
2. Jupiter (Signifies Air)
3. Mars (Signifies Earth)
4. 4th house and its lord (signify the place of stay)
5. Venus (Signifies architecture/design/luxury)

When lagna (ascendant) signifies place of birth, the 4th from it signifies the place of stay.  To buy a landed property it is required that in a horoscope, the placement of Mercury plays an important role.  Its influence on the 4th house or the 4th lord will give the native a strong chance to own a landed property in its dasha period.

The transit of Saturn and Jupiter on the 4th / 10th makes the 4th strong (if they both are not retro).  Only in some cases a retro Jupiter will help in buying property which is far away from the natives birth place.  Like an NRI buying a land in India or vise-versa.

If there is a strong influence of natal Jupiter (Jupiter in the horoscope) on the 4th house or the 4th lord, then the native will buy a flat (elevated from ground) in an apartment.  Jupiter signifies elevated lands and an elevated seat.  It also signifies big and spacious buildings.

Venus's influence on the 4th will give artistic touch to the property.  The native will hire architects to build the house and hence the house will be luxurious and beautiful.

If the 6th house is influenced by the 4th lord or vice-versa, then the native will build the house after borrowing loan from financial institutions.

Mars plays an important role as to buying a large landed property, wherein the native may plan to build a house and use the rest of the land for business.  Mars is taken to be a natural malefic, but in the case of house building, Mars and Rahu are considered good, since they represent accumulation of material wealth.

If the native has a favourably posited Saturn in his chart, then there will not be any labour problem.  But, in the case wherein Saturn is ill posited or debilated, then there would be delay in the construction due to labour problems.

Will be discussing about Ancestral property in later blogs.

Understanding Kundali or Horoscope

Understanding Kundali or Horoscope

All classical texts acknowledge that the Rasi Kundali represents the human body with the ascendant indicating the head and the 12th indicating the sole of the feet.

All the other body parts fall into place as follows:

1. Ascendant : Crown of the head, the face and the body in totality (since the 1st house represent the physical self)

2. II house : The Eyes (especially the right eye), the nose, the teeth, jaws, tongue, cheeks etc.

3. III house : The throat, the vocal chords, thyroid gland, the arms and the upper part of the chest which includes the collar bones and the shoulders.

4. IV house : The chest, the mammary glands, the upper part of the heart, food pipe, lungs, rib cage, etc.

5. V house : The lower part of the chest, the heart, diaphragm, stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, egg, sperm, etc.

6. VI house : The small intestines, urinary bladder, abdomen in general

7. VII house : The large intestine, the kidneys, the lumbar area of the spinal chord, back bone, ovary, etc

8. VIII house : The genital organs, the anus, buttocks, etc

9. IX house : The thighs, upper part of the varicose veins, etc.

10. X house : The knee joint

11. XI house : The calf muscle and the Shin bone

12. XII house : The feet below the ankle inclusive of the sole.

The above classification is a basic definition.

But, when we see to it in detail, we understand that the 12 houses run from top to bottom i.e from head to toe.

The chakras as defined in a human body (which are also known as power points) are as follows:

1. Sahasrara : The crown chakra which is located above the crown of the head

2. Agnya : Located a little above the midpoint between the eyes

3. Vishuddhi : Located near the throat (which is also commonly known as the Throat chakra)

4. Anahat : Located at the Heart or the center of the chest.

5. Nabhi : Located at the Solar Plexus

6. Swadisthana : Located near the spleen

7. Mooladhara : Located at the anus or the Root chakra.

This is called the Kundalini theory in which there are techniques to control these chakras and obtain a certain level of realization.

Not letting the chakra theory consume our topic, let us move on to understand the placement of the Kundali (the Horoscope) in sync with the Chakras.

The characteristics of these chakras will synchronize with the characteristics of the seven planets.

Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn descend from the Sahasrara to the Mooladhara in a sequential order.

Both the nodes the Rahu and the Ketu are called outsiders or the mlechchagrahas. This is a clear indication that both these planets have cosmic strengths which act at opposite poles.

Rahu is present in the baser region of the root and since it encompasses it, the mooladhara is the toughest chakra to be controlled by human beings.  Rahu is the significator of sensual pleasure, lust and other baser needs which keep the human aura entangled into its strong grip.

Ketu is present above the Sahasrara as a Halo (usually depicted as a circle of light behind a saints head). Ketu is a Moksha karaka or the significator of realization (of both the self and the creator).

Hence both Rahu and Ketu have not been assigned any physical form in astrology.

Here we can understand the classification as :

Sun and Moon are Luminaries and hence control our consciousness and thought process.

Mars and Mercury control our aggression, motivation, activity and metabolism.

Jupiter controls our digestion, pancreas, liver, gall bladder, stomach, etc.

Venus control our blood circulation, sex organs, veins, etc.

Saturn controls our movement, excretory organs, sleep, etc.

The word Kundali which is used as a synonym to Horoscope is in actual sense referring to our chakras and the other organs which lie in a specific pattern along the spinal chord.

Kalasarpa Yoga

Astro Guide Mysore

Kalasarpa Yoga

The name Kalasarpa in the astrological study means the clockwise arc between the rahu and ketu, inclusive of rahu and ketu degree points.

Most of it is a myth since the term Kalasarpa Dosha or Kalasarpa Yoga has not been discussed in Classics.   Although, many ancient scholars have discussed about this subject in-depth.

There are many variations of Kalasarpa, I have deliberated a few below :-

1.   If all planets are situated between Rahu and Ketu including the Ascendant
2.   If all planets are situated between Rahu and Ketu excluding the Ascendant
3.   If all the planets are situated between Rahu and Ketu but one or two planets are conjunct with Rahu or Ketu
4.   If all the planets are posited between Ketu and Rahu and as above condition.

Horoscope with any of the above said conditions is said to have KSY.
After a lot of study and analyse, the natives with Kalasarpa Yoga donot have to fear dire consequences, since the negative effects of this yoga have been hyped.

KSY gives good effects depending on the position of planets.  It can confer High Status, Financial Prosperity and Luxuries.

Dr. B.V Raman, in his book of "Three Hundred Important Combinations" has requested the general public to change their perspective towards this yoga and relax their mindsets and not to fall prey to faulty astrologers who inculcate fear into their clients and force them pay large sums of money towards performing poojas and homas.

To conclude, let us put it this way, "there is no such yoga, and still if there is one, it is not that negative".

A Case study on Insomnia

Astro Guide Mysore

Analysis of Insomnia

About the illness:

In cases of insomnia the patient suffers from not getting sleep in the regular night hours and feels awake and fresh.  In chronic cases, the patient additionally suffers from migraine.

This illness disturbs the routine of the native and unsettles the peaceful family life. This affects the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) which in turn affects the digestive system.

Cause:
In most of the cases it is due to palpitation of the heart and the pulse which does not slowdown to sleeping pulse. The cause may be anxiety, worries, stress or Hypertension (High BP) and so on.

Excessive intake of Coffee, Tea, Drugs and Smoking are the main causes of insomnia.

Effect:
Due to this illness, the native’s activity becomes lethargic and sluggish.  Thinking or thought process of the native is hampered. This problem may lead to many major diseases or illnesses.

Cure:
There is no immediate cure from any medication.  Yoga and Pranayama along with naturopathy will do wonders.  In severe cases the native has to go through repetitive counseling and psychotherapy. Following good Diet and Nutrition and bringing the native back to routine is important.

This case study is to analyze the charts using Astrological Parameters and make students understand its utility in the field of diagnostics.

At the first glance the papa karthari yoga to the Lagna is to be noted.  The papa karthari yoga is due to the position of Rahu and Saturn on either side of the Ascendant.  The Moon + Saturn combination makes a person melancholic.

Rahu is posited in the 12th and Venus the 12th lord is posited in the 6th along with Ketu the lord of depression.  The native is suffering from a chronic case of insomnia throughout her Venus Maha Dasa and till date through the Sun Maha Dasa.

The native is suffering from the start of Sun dasa from March 2008. The 1st house is afflicted by the position go Saturn in it.  A strong papakarthari yoga has happened to the lagna with Rahu and Mercury flanking it.

The problem of insomnia started in the Sun Dasa.  Here Venus and Sun both are posited in the 2nd pada of Purvaphalguni Nakshatra.  Venus is totally combust.

Along with the problem of Insomnia the native is also suffering from palpitation, variable BP (both high and low) and head ache due to the position of Sun.

She is also suffering from kidney dysfunction and diabetes from past 10 years.
A strong affliction to the 6th house can be seen.

(Note: Chart details are not revealed due to confidentiality)

Moon controls the thought process and hence a controls the activity of the Mind.  If the flow of thought process does not come under a certain level then the mind will not be able to rest and sleep.  The pulse and heartbeat will keep on working as though the person is fully active.  It has been a mystery to science and psychologists around the world to understand and solve this problem.

All streams of medical systems have agreed that counseling and psychotherapy is the best method to reduce the activity of mind and bring it to peace.
