3rd Bhava/House – Characteristics/Karakatwas

Third Bhava or the 3rd House is known as the Bhatru bhava.

And the karaka of 3rd house is Mars.

There are some other theories where the dark planets in the sense that shadowy planets – Rahu & Ketu also takes up the karaka of this house. But still no book has concretely given this particular idea or set these planets for the 3rd, 9th or any other house except for Ketu as the 12th house karaka.

So the Upachaya Sthanas (House of Growth) that is the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th are referred to the Dark planets, because these planets, that is Rahu & Ketu perform very well in the house of Growth. Hence both Rahu & Ketu becomes partial karaka for the 3rd house.

Third house is also known as the House of Valour (Vikrama/Parakrama sthana). Parakrama happens when one can show his courage. Nowadays a person can show his courage by fighting and coming out valorous in most of the games which we play between different countries other than the war because nowadays war is not considered as shaurya or valour. It is considered as an inevitable defence system, in which we have to protect ourselves. But still the people who are working in the army, they need courage. They are valorous, their courageous because they show their grit, their commitment towards protecting our country or any other country in different countries.

They show their valour. They are ready to give their life and this is why it comes in the third house, the neck. It signifies arms, the neck, the shoulder bones.

One of the most important characteristic is communication. It is the house of growth & activity. The ears, throat, the vocal cords, the collarbones all are signified by the 3rd house. And the people who have good third house will have good family because it is an excellent House of activity. So good family background and if benefic planets are placed there that signifies that the native will be blessed with a good, happy & supportive family. Maid servants, short journeys or travels, even travels of marketing and business also fall in the third house. But usually it is seen from the seventh house because it is the house of business, but short journeys like short trips or vacations or displacement of a person from a given residence is also seen from the 3rd house. Not from the place itself. He doesn't get pushed away from the place itself,

like for example - a person is staying in Bangalore city or Delhi, so he will be changing his residence. Let us say that he is in rented accommodation in Delhi. He will leave that house and move out to another house. But if he is in own house, there is a chance that either he will give it to for rent, or sell it off and then go to another house. So this selling off residence, sale of residence and making money out of it, is also seen from the 3rd house.

3rd house represents the hands, the dexterity of our fingers, the whole arm is actually and hence also the handwriting. The 3rd house represents handwriting and the 5th house represents mind writing. It’s a beautiful concept to understand, handwriting is only a physical thing that they practically are writing, that's it. If it starts flowing from the mind and comes to their hand and that writing is called mind writing that’s because the brain is controlling, our hands are not, if only our hand is writing and there is a little bit of discontinuity, it becomes only handwriting.

Hormonal dysfunction is a very important point to be noted here. Hormones are seen from the 8th house and the dysfunction of these hormones are seen from the 3rd house.

Skill, hobby, part time falls in the 6th house. But 6th house is for a hobby or part time going into a little ahead and becoming service. But in 3rd house hobby or part time is for own self enjoyment.

For example - Like I love painting and I do it for myself. I love singing and I sing it for myself so it is not like we are going to perform somewhere suddenly. Performance can also happen if the Lagna Lord is strong.

Diseases like tuberculosis, pneumonia, asthma, rheumatism and coughing all these are listed in the third house. Upper part of the lungs and chest comes under 3rd house. Hence doing the pranayama called Bhastrika is good for improving the functioning of lungs.

Radio television, anchoring, radio jockey comes in the 3rd house due to its quality of communication. They can be very good presenters. So, journalism, advocacy and writing and editing also comes in the 3rd house.

Librarians, libraries, communications like - email communication, postal communication, wireless communications, walkie talkie, telegraph all communications, falls in the 3rd house.

To sum up the points mentioned above, below is the list of characteristic:

 ·        Valour, Courage, Strength & Heroism

·        Siblings i.e. Co-born

·        Maternal uncle

·        Communication

·        Short travels - short trips/vacations - air travels

·        Right ear

·        Upper portion of Chest

·        Shoulders & Arms

·        Thyroid glands & Vocal chords

·        Hormonal Dysfunction

·        Handwriting

·        Growth

·        Activity

·        Motivation

·        Past time or hobby

·        Writings & Editing

·        All types of Communications

2nd Bhava/House – Characteristics / Karakatwas

The first Bhava is called as the Tanu Bhava and the second house is called as the mana bhava. Usually Tanu, Manu and Dhana all fall in the first and the second houses. Manas is the 2nd house -it is again the secondary concept. The primary concept is that manas has to be seen from the 5th house where the thoughts will actually come out as imagination. In the Lagna the thoughts and dreams will come as an inspiration, so it’s interpretation is different when in Lagna. A dream can motivate a single thought and then become an inspirational thought, that also can happen or an inspirational thought can come within oneself when we are in the Jagrukta Awastha(Awaken State) That is, we are conscious. If we are getting a thought, which is trying to motivate us or guide us or an idea as to how to go ahead in life, that comes from the Lagna i.e. the first house.

So all this happens between the first house and the fifth house. This particular bracket of 1-2-3-4 & 5 is known as the going forward mind. The mind which moves forward.

Second house is for the Dhana(wealth), Kutumba(family), Anna(food) Sthana & Primary Education. These are the four major characteristics of the second house. It also represents eyes and the teeth, so these are the two parts of the body which are very important in the second house. The nose also comes there, but not that prominently because it has to be dealt in the drekanna (D3). Dhana Bhava means prosperous, wealthy with lot of good wealth. Dhana not only means wealth but it includes all the luxurious materialistic, all the other required material for the life, example – groceries, fruits, vegetables, other daily needs along with liquid cash.

It represents family – the 1st circle of family members, it does not include uncles & aunts. Speech i.e. voice texture, tone, pitch, the tongue is included in the 2nd house but not the vocal chords. So teeth, eyes, food- what we eat, what goes into our mouth and into our stomach is the second house.

Mind once again comes in the second house. The primary education is the education which the child gets before he or she goes to school at home. First lesson which is learnt by the parents, environment and also by observation.

Self-earned property and immovable i.e. landed properties also falls in the 2nd house. Sthira asti (fixed or immovable) and Chara asti (liquid property – cash, bonds, jewels, gold etc.). Sthira asti means all those properties which are coming down to you through ancestral properties like immovable property and also all chara asti can also come – example if your great Grand Father might have left some lacs of rupees which directly comes from bank to bank transfer or you get the passbook and you become a joint account holder because you were a nominee. So it is also like chara asti. So all these properties will come in the second house, not the 11th House which is only income.

Clothes, clothing, righteousness - being good and righteous, the nails and the taste buds which is a very important characteristic of 2nd house. Taste buds and desire for food. Gluttony can be seen from second house and the 5th house because 5th house is stomach and the second house is the mouth or the eating habits. So if there are bad planets placed in the second house, there is a chance that the person gets indulged into eating junk. But if the Lagnadhipati (Lord of Ascendant) is strong and either Rahu or Saturn is posited in the second house then also I have seen that those people were very Satwik in eating habits. That is why it is very clearly said that - What we are is what we eat.

What we are is what we eat, how we are is how we live. Since 2nd house is House of food hence I am discussing about it.

The another most important karakatwa is - House of Death / Maraka Sthana. 2nd lord or the planets posited in the 2nd house indicates death

The main key points of 2nd House is summarised below –

 ·        Mind

·        Wealth – Both movable & immovable property

·        Earnings

·        Bonds, securities and shares

·        Prosperity

·        Food - Eating habits

·        Family

·        Speech - Soft / Harsh speech

·        Teeth, Tongue, Mouth

·        Right Eye

·        Primary education

·        Infancy

·        Breathing problems, Sinusitis, Asthma

·        Family

·        Expression & Eloquence

·        Nails

·        Vision or power Memory

·        Miserliness in giving money

·        House of Death / Maraka Sthana

1st BHAVA / HOUSE - CHARACTERISTICS/KARAKATWAS

We know that there are 12 Houses in a Rashi Kundali. And these houses are imaginary, that means even the rashi are imaginary because the Rashi Kundali is nothing but when the 360 degrees of sidereal wheel is cut into 12 equal parts though it is not exactly equal because we will understand that some of the rashis are short in length and some are lengthy i.e. more than 30 degrees, this is because of the elliptical shape of the Zodiac.

 What is 1st House/Bhava?

Once a person is born, the sign which is rising in the eastern horizon is taken as the Lagna or Ascendant which is called as the 1st House/Bhava and from that Lagna, the 2nd becomes the 2nd house/bhava, 3rd becomes 3rd house/bhava and so on till 12th house/bhava.

There are methodologies in which the Lagna is taken as the zero degree, and from there each 30 degrees have been cut and then sorted out as houses. That is, the Lagna will be the starting point in this case, and in several cases, Lagna is taken as the midpoint of the first house. That means the House will range between 15 degrees on either side of the Lagna.

For example - Let us say if Lagna is at 10 degrees in Gemini Sign/Rashi then Taurus 25th degree itself will be the starting point of the first house and Gemini 25th degree will be the ending point of the 1st House. So in this case the 7th house midpoint will fall in 10 degrees Sagittarius. So if it is 10 degrees Sagittarius, that means Scorpio 25th degree will be the starting point of the 7th House and the 25th degree in the Sagittarius will be the ending point of the 7th House. Hence if there is a planet posited at 28 degrees Taurus, this means that, that planet falls in the 1st house and not in the 12th house.

The Characteristics and the Significations of the First House -

The first house is the beginning. It is also called as the Adi Rashi/Bhava and the 12th house is called Poorna Bhava. The 12th house is called as the Poorna Bhava not Antha or Ending Bhava because a person completes his life and gets Moksha.

The life cycle starts from the 1st House. It represents the body, the scalp and our face. It represents expressions, peacefulness & harmony. Bones, limbs, happiness, unhappiness, deha sukha and manasika sukha – to have a healthy body, mind and soul need to be understood from the 1st house itself.

Fame, dreams, becoming a miser, the longevity of the person is also seen secondarily from the first house, as primarily it is seen from the 8th house. Dignity, respect, character, wealth, wisdom, all these are represented by the 1st House. It also represents the skin. It also represents good sleep. The most important factor which is represented by the first house is identity. Prestige, prejudice, perception and ahankara is represented by the first house.

What is identity? Me myself mine. What am I going to get? Where am I? How am I? How are they treating me? What am I going to become? All these things are represented by the first house.

So the 12th house usually is called as the Vyaya Sthana in the sense that, it is the loss for the next house. So for the first house, the 12th house is the Vyaya sthana and for the 2nd house the first house becomes the Vyayasthana, this is called as the Bhavat Bhava principle. So the 12th house is losing one's identity. Losing one's identity, means losing one’s birth place. Place of birth is also represented by the first house. So when the 12th house is going to unsettle the first house, the person will move out of the country, out of his village, out of his city and travel far away for living. So only for a livelihood if a person is getting displaced that is called as the loss of identity of a person from a given place, physically. The second level of loss of identity is that I lose myself. That is, I have lost my ego and I come out of that egoistic perception to start understanding what this creation is and what I am here for. So only when we are able to dissolve the layer of the ego that Ahankara, only then we can see through this is. This is the real essence mentioned in the Bhagavat Gita or any other spiritual text.

To sum it up, the key points are mentioned below:

·       Physical stature, Complexion & Appearance

·       Brain, Hair & its texture, Skin, Facial bones & Facial-lustre

·       Honor, Dignity, Prosperity & General well-being

·       Perception

·       Name & Fame

·       Wisdom & Knowledge

·       Longevity

·       Old Age

·       Desires

·       Prestige, Mannerisms, Character & Behavior

·       Traditions & Customs

·       Inspiration & Aspiration

·       Happiness & Unhappiness

The Four Major Transits – Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu & Ketu - Year 2022

YEAR 2022

The Four Major Transits – Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu & Ketu

Let us go through the transits for this particular year 2022. The meaning of Makar Sankranti here in in India as per the vedic language means that Surya Sankramana is happening. That is, as per the Nirayana longitude, Sun is entering Capricorn from the sign of Sagittarius.

There are four major Sankramanas – Mesh(Aries) Sankramana, Karkataka(Cancer) Sankramana, Tula(Libra) Sankramana and the Makar(Capricorn) Sankramana.

These four Sankramanas are also known as the four Major Sankrantis in which major festivals are held particularly in these 4 Solar Ingress which is also known as the equinox. We have different equinoxes, the solar solstice, the winter solstice, and all these things. So this is one of the solstice where actually sun reverses from going down South towards the southern hemisphere, it starts moving up towards the northern hemisphere and that is why it is called as Uttarayana. We all in the Indian subcontinent, actually celebrate these festivals.

During this particular Makar Sankranthi time, people eat sweets made up of oily seeds and jaggery.  Oily seeds and all oily items. That is because we all know that winter is the time when our skin and everything starts becoming dry and the new skin comes. So what actually our predecessors, forefathers, our great sages and saints thought about this, they then introduced oily food & sweets made out of nuts & jiggery which was good for us and which gives warmth to our body. We use a lot of groundnut, sesame(til), mustard seeds in our food preparation. We also prepare a lot of Kashayas i.e. decoction of ginger, basil leaves, mint leaves, elaichi (cardamom) etc. which gives and boosts a lot of strength in our immune system.

Let us now understand the different transits of planets and whether they are good or bad and also know how these transits are going to work for us because 2022 is going to be a more eventful year than the year 2021. 2022 is not going to be such a great year when compared to 2021. And if I'm telling this, it's a prediction.  We can see that Saturn becomes Retrograde in Aquarius on 5th of June 2022 and when it is going to become retrograde in Aquarius, it is going to enter into Aquarius on 28th of April 2022, so till April Saturn will be in Capricorn and Jupiter will enter Pisces on 14th April 2022. So only for 14 days Jupiter will be waiting, when Jupiter is in the Pisces and Saturn is in the Aquarius that is 28th of April 2022 Saturn joins in Aquarius and Jupiter goes to Pisces.

The difficult part is when Saturn has a very short stay in Aquarius this year, because on 5th of June 2022 it once again becomes Retrograde in Aquarius. That is a very difficult position and it starts moving backwards towards Capricorn on 13th of July 2022, i.e.  5th of June 2022 it becomes retrograde and 13th of July 2022 it enters back into Capricorn. So these are the dates that means 28th of April 2022 Saturn enters Aquarius, 5th of June 2022 it becomes retrograde in Aquarius and on the 13th of July, 2022 it enters back into Capricorn.

So this year there's going to be a lot of events. Why?

Because the other planets are also transiting in the same time.

Like for example in the month of April, Saturn transits from Capricorn to Aquarius, Jupiter transits from Aquarius to Pisces. Rahu on 13th of April transits from Taurus to Aries - It's backwards. Same time, Ketu also transits on 13th of April from Scorpio to Libra. So we all can see that this year because of these four major transits happening and retrogression is happening It's going to be an eventful year. There's going to be a lot of difficulty. People have to understand that they have to follow very strict protocol, eat well, exercise well, and stay healthy. Particularly for these Rashis(Signs) in between Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, it’s not going to be easy period. Particularly for Aquarius, because Rahu is going to come to the chest and lungs, Jupiter is transiting between the 2nd and the 1st, this is for Aquarius i.e. where the moon is posited in that period. And Saturn is also transiting in forward and backward motion, so please do not unnecessarily invest money or don't travel when it is not required. Be safe this year and we can do many things next year. This is for people particularly in Aquarius and also for people of Leo, which is the opposite Sign, we can see that from Leo, Jupiter is transiting between 7th and 8th and Saturn is transiting between 6th and 7th.

This is not a great position because Saturn becoming Retro in the 6th House gives a lot of difficulty. So Saturn finally becomes direct by 22nd Oct 2022 in Capricorn. Jupiter also becomes direct in Pisces on 23rd of November 2022. That means after 29th of July 2022, when Saturn is already Retro on 13th, on 29th July 2022, Jupiter also becomes retrograde in Pisces. Till 22nd of October both are Retro, Saturn & Jupiter.

What is Saturn? -  the mass, the people, and what is Jupiter? - The financial condition of the people. People getting good food, good water, good vegetables, the cost of living is normal, this happens when Jupiter is normal. So now here when Jupiter is Retro and it is Retro over the sign of Pisces, it(Pisces) means ocean so we can see a lot of activity like thunder, storms, hurricanes, tornados, all these things picking up once again in 2022.

We all know that ENSO has a major impact on tropical rainfall as it affects the ocean-atmosphere linkages and also alters the pressure patterns. The la Nina is very down. It will still be down and we have got those reports from the scientists that the La Lina effect will be persisting until May 2022 and May is the verge of the monsoon coming to the southern part of India, this is like June 1st it enters so if La Lina simply converts into the monsoon, we will have a terrible monsoon. So even Jupiter in the water sign being Retro will give all difficulties due to water, rain and the wind and all these things and since Saturn is also going to be Retro in a windy sign and then coming back to the earthy sign, there is going to be a lot of difficulties, so it is not going to be that great this year. There's going to be political unrest. The country will be going through difficult moments, financial difficulties and if we are complacent now, the next variant of Corona which I have been telling earlier which is going to enter into this society, into the Community let us say by this particular Retro period i.e. between 29th of July and 22nd of October, i.e.  August, September and 3/4 of October is not going to be easy.

Hence Please be safe. Follow the strict and the most tough protocols of COVID, unnecessarily do not travel. I have seen that people are flocking to all sorts of tourist spots. Every tourist spot is full. I can understand that people have got frustrated from past two years sitting in one place.  So the transit of Rahu and Ketu in Libra i.e. the House of Business and the House of Marriage i.e. House of Relationships. And Rahu, who is going to enter into the House of Confidence, the head i.e. head of the Kala Purusha - Mesha(Aries) and since it is the Ascendant, the person becomes overconfident, as we know that overconfidence can lead us to difficult and disasters, hence caution has to be taken. Do not do anything which is out of the way. Prevention is better than cure.
